Glossary

This glossary defines a selection of 100 terms used in the field of education and training policy in Europe. It is intended for researchers and practitioners and more generally for all those involved in education and training policy. It does not represent an exhaustive inventory of the terminology used by specialists; rather it identifies key terms that are essential for an understanding of current education and training policy in Europe.

This glossary was prepared in cooperation with the European Training Foundation (ETF), the European Commission

(DG Education and Culture) and Eurydice (The information network on education in Europe). It takes into consideration

a series of recent policy developments, mainly:

• the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF)

• the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET)

It is designed to aid communication among stakeholders and contribute to a better understanding of European Union

Accreditation of an education or training programme

A process of quality assurance through which accredited status is granted to a programme of education or training, showing

it has been approved by the relevant legislative or professional authorities by having met predetermined standards.

Proceso de control de calidad que confiere una categoría determinada a un programa de educación o formación, al indicar

la autoridad legal o profesional competente que dicho programa cumple determinadas normas preestablecidas.

DE Akkreditierung eines Bildungs- oder Ausbildungsprogramms

Qualitätssicherungsverfahren, in dessen Rahmen ein Programm der allgemeinen oder beruflichen Bildung einen akkreditierten Status erhält, der als Nachweis gilt, dass es von den zuständigen Rechtsetzungsorganen oder berufsständischen Organisationen genehmigt wurde, da es bestimmte festgelegte Standards erfüllt.

FR homologation d'un programme d'enseignement ou de formation

Procédure de contrôle qualité visant à la reconnaissance et approbation officielles d'un établissement d'un programme d'enseignement ou de formation par l'autorité législative ou professionnelle compétente après vérification de la conformité vis-à-vis de certaines normes prédéfinies.

IT accreditamento di un programma d’istruzione o di formazione

Un processo di certificazione della qualità il cui scopo è il riconoscimento e l’approvazione ufficiali di un programma d’istruzione o formazione da parte di un’autorità giuridica o professionale competente, in seguito alla verifica della sua conformità a determinati standard.
